Ontario’s Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) has increased the average premium rate for 2011 by two per cent.

Particularity hit with a higher than average rate increase is the snow plowing sector. Rates here went up 11.1 per cent, while the remaining horticulture sector groups either remained the same as last year’s rates, or had less than one per cent hikes. See the chart below.

The WSIB says that close to half of all employers will pay the same rate as last year.

The maximum insurable earnings ceiling for 2011 is $79,600. This is an increase of 2.6 per cent from $77,600 in 2010. Changes to the maximum insurable earnings ceiling are linked to changes in average earnings in Ontario as measured by Statistics Canada, and provisions under the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act.
